Opera

LA CENERENTOLA

Gioachino Rossini

The highly successful production of the National Opera of Greece (2013/14) is being revived at the Olympia for four performances, featuring an exceptional cast of performers. Rossini composes an ingenious comic opera full of humor and twists. The plot is based on Charles Perrault's “Cinderella”, but Jacopo Ferretti's libretto adapts the story to the time when the opera was written. Rodula Gaitanou stages the action in the microcosm of an off-Broadway theatre in New York City in the 1930s, during the period of the Great Depression and the economic crash. Thus, the story is modernized to highlight social and moral reflections in a time and place that resonate more with today's audience's references.

Concert in the Municipal Theatre of Piraeus

Konstantinos Terzakis, one of our most active and popular young Greek conductors, has already distinguished himself in demanding international competitions and appeared on the podium of important European orchestras. For this, his Athens State Orchestra debut, he will be conducting Mendelssohn's Scottish Symphony, a piece which starkly captures Scotland's grey, melancholy and often wild landscape and the range of emotions it gives rise to. We look forward with especial interest to the performance of the outstanding trumpet soloist Dimitris Gogas in the Divertimento by Charalambos Kanas, one of the finest Greek composers of our era, whose music combines the cerebral with the emotional in a clear and consistent way.

Workshop with Uni of Birmingham conducting a recording session with 6 premieres of pieces for 11 instrument ensemble.
